SUMMARY:James Island County Park’s Reggae Concert Series Kicks off June 1 -- Charleston
DESCRIPTION:The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission will kick off the first Reggae Nights concert of its Summer Concert Series on Saturday\, June 1 at James Island County Park. Gates open at 8:00 p.m. and music by Selah Dubb begins at 8:30 p.m. \nFor the perfect cool ending to a warm summer day\, bring your chair or blanket\, kick back\, and relax to an outdoor reggae concert in the beautiful outdoor setting of one of your county parks. All ages are invited and children 12 and under\, as well as Gold Pass holders\, enjoy free admission to all events in the concert series. Hungry concert-goers can purchase Caribbean-style dishes\, pizza and other festival foods at the event. Crafters and other vendors will be on site displaying local handmade crafts and souvenirs available for purchase. \nAdditional reggae concerts will take place throughout the summer at James Island County Park. The 2013 Reggae Nights Summer Concert Series lineup is:\n•    June 1: Selah Dubb\n•    June 22: The Dubplates\n•    July 13: De Lions of Jah\n•    August 3: Mystic Vibrations \nTickets can be purchased at the gate. SUMMARY:22nd Annual Lowcountry Cajun Festival in Charleston
DESCRIPTION:Get ready for some ragin’ Cajun fun in Charleston! The 22nd Annual Lowcountry Cajun Festival heats up James Island County Park on Sunday\, April 7\, 2013 from 12 – 6 p.m. Bringing Louisiana living to the Lowcountry\, Cajun Fest is a full-day of Zydeco music\, Cajun and Creole foods\, children’s activities and lots of entertainment straight from the bayou! \nFull-bellied fun is what this festival is all about as local and regional chefs cook up a variety of mouth-watering foods.  Savor the tastes of a variety of Cajun and Creole dishes like jambalaya\, alligator\, etouffe\, andouille sausage and of course\, crawfish\, crawfish\, and more crawfish!  Also enjoy Lowcountry favorites like seafood and Southern barbecue. Those who prefer a tamer menu will find up ample portions of festival foods like hot dogs\, snow cones\, funnel cakes and more. \nPeople who love crawfish will discover paradise at the Lowcountry Cajun Festival! Visitors travel from near and far for huge servings of fresh\, steaming crawfish\, undoubtedly the festival’s most popular food item. And crawfish-eating connoisseurs will have the chance to show off their talent at the popular annual crawfish eating contest\, which begins at 2:30 p.m.  Visitors are encouraged to sign up for the contest when they arrive at the festival. \nNon-stop Zydeco music performed live throughout the day will keep your toes tappin’. Featured performers will be “Swamp Pop Princess” Shelly Waters\, who will take the stage at 1 p.m.; Unknown Tongues\, who will perform at 2:15 and 4:45 p.m.; and Sidewalk Zydeco\, who will appear on stage at 3:30 p.m. Other festivities include a crafts market\, mechanical rides\, inflatables and games for kids. Check www.ccprc.com/cajun for a current entertainment schedule. \nThe Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission continues to work with the South Carolina Green Fair in support of conservation efforts to provide recycling and composting stations on site for all waste. In 2012\, 95% of the waste produced at the Lowcountry Cajun Festival was diverted from landfills. \nAdmission to the Lowcountry Cajun Festival is $10. The event is free for ages 12 and under with paying adult. Current Gold Pass holders are also admitted free. Gold Passes will not be sold on site the day of the festival.
